My wardrobe view

looks

I’ve been clearing out my wardrobe and trying to figure out what I should keep and what to give away to charity. And so I have spent the day perusing magazines to come up with some of my favourite looks for the Winter and I will try to match my clothes accordingly. I love the Alexander Wang look (left), it’s edgy but wearable and all I need to do is invest in a pair of statement trousers (similar to those on the DKNY runway, second from right). I also have two faux fur gilets, one from Cynthia Rowley and another from Awear which I got last year. These will look great over skinny jeans, cropped trousers or even a pencil skirt to give it more of a sophisticated tone. My gilets are more like the one seen here on Kate Moss (right).

I plan on dressing edgy this year with lot’s of statement shoes (animal print ankle boots from New Look) and leather jackets (I have two, one from All Saints and one from Forever 21). By having these two essentials, I reckon I can mix and and match without having to spend a fortune. Happy days.

the fashion movement

My Saturday just gone was fashion filled. I am currently working with Jervis Street shopping centre to document all the activities and festivities of the The Fashion Movement, a whole month of fashion shows, styling advice and pop up shops. The Fashion Movement is on every Saturday and Sunday over the next four weeks and there is so much to see. The best part (apart from the hourly fashion shows) is the pop up Jean Movement store in the old Waterstones space. Pop along where you can get styling advice on the right jeans for you, whether you like skinny or boyfriend cut, the advice comes free of charge! Resident experts are on hand to try on styles which are all available from the stores within the centre, like New Look, Forever 21, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Miss Selfridge.

I’ll be there each Saturday so pop along and take a look at the great fashion on offer and if you see me with my microphone filming, come over and say hi!!!

My outfit above is from Forever 21 located on the ground floor of the Jervis Shopping Centre! Probably my favourite store and well worth a visit!

A trip to style

A few weeks back I met up with the fashionista-in-the-making, Joyce McEvoy, who won a little styling session with me, with thanks to KISS magazine.

Now let’s get one thing straight, I have met a lot of people who think they know a lot about fashion, but on this particular day, I spent a few fashion filled hours with a teenager who knows more than the average fashion magazine editor.

Being able to define your style, is one thing, but being able to stay true to it is another. Over a hot chocolate in Debenhams, Joyce and I chatted of her influences, (i.e. Blake Lively!), trends she likes (cargo pants) and where to find the perfect pair of military inspired boots. To speak the truth, I saw a little of the 15 year old me in this little lady. Obsessed with fashion, making up outfits, reading every fashion magazine in the newsagents, and basically building up knowledge which I knew would come in handy in the future.

Whilst wandering about Forever 21, I shared my deepest darkest and safely stored styling secrets with Joyce and we had a go at putting together a young and contemporary look. We ended up with skinny jeans, cotton tee and a really great chunky cardi. Then we added a skirt to the outfit instead of jeans and voila, a whole new more feminine look! I showed Joyce that by pulling at the seam of jeans, you can tell how they will wear and wash. And what to look for when buying shoes (my inner chiropodist getting a rare flirt with society!).

I knew she would love Forever 21 and what’s great is that, the store is great for teenagers to mums to the girl in the office. There is something for everyone.

I reckon in a few years, I’ll be going to her for style advice! x

So much on, so little time.

So I finally get to sit down and do a little blogging. I had to remind myself today that I still have a blog and a website to run! I have had a whirlwind of a week but every second of it has been magical.

Wednesday saw the eagerly awaited launch of Fade Street at Dakota, which, in a lot of ways, is the Irish version of the Hills. As an aside, it was my inaugural presenting gig for stylenation. Up close among the action, I got to chat to Dani, Cici, Vogue and Louise about filming the show and what we can expect. These four girls are different in character but equally lovely and delightful to interview. All clad in black, they struck their best pose, and smiled away for the admiring paps and guests who wanted a piece of the action. I also had the chance to do some style spotting and chat to some of the faboo guests about their stylish attire whilst listening to Cork band, J90, rock it out.

Moving onto Thursday, Dundrum held the well publicised Shop and Rock event, combining two of my favourite things, shopping and music. I got dressed up, (poured myself into leather leggings and all!) and it was worth it as the lovely Angela Scanlon approached me to enter the most stylish competition hosted by BT2. No success to report there but the lucky winner did win at €500 voucher!

Now Friday night was exciting! The fashion glitterati (including me and Mark Andrew of course) were out in force to open Forever 21. Yes, it’s here. No need to pay for a flight to the States anymore. I had a ball chatting to stylist Maria Fusco, Off the Rails’ Brendan Courtney and fashionista Virginia Macari. And MTVs (and Bray’s) finest Laura Whitmore was on the decks spinning the tunes!  But the icing on the cake was interviewing the beautiful Amber le Bon for stylenation (my first big interview on camera!). Amber has been enlisted as the face of the European campaign and it was hard to avoid her stunning images throughout the store. We had a great chat, from why women carry handbags which contain our lives around with us to how cute the childrens clothes are! Amber also pointed out to me in which images you might be able to see her nose stud! I asked her all about her personal style and whether her catwalk queen mum, Yasmine, has passed down career advice. “Be nice” is the golden rule according to mum. You can see the whole interview on stylenation coming soon!!!!!

Then, I spent Sunday in Zuku by KSO filming a little snippet soon to be seen on Xposé and Kildare TV.

And now I am pretty wrecked but have loads of fun stuff planned, like a shoot for Willow shot by the fab Maria McGrail and making a pilot for stylenation, so I’ll be kept busy!

Here are some of the memories of the week that was….
