You might have already seen my earlier vlog post on my Today I’m Wearing for the judging of the Clery’s Best Dressed Vintage on Saturday where over 20 incredibly stylish ladies lined up in their finery (old and new) to compete for this fashionable title.
I decided myself since the occastion was to celebrate the department store’s 70th anniversary, to doll myself up as if I had just stepped out of an episode of Mad Men. Walking in to the store that morning was like being transported back to pre WWII Dublin, Billie Holliday playing in the background, every sales assistant with vintage rolls in their hair, prestine make up. All the stops were out.
The style was just phenomenal and alongside fellow judges, the very lovely Cathy O’Connor and Clery’s Buyer, Geraldine Waldron we were astounded at the effort which all the entrants put into their look. There were 3 ladies over the age of 80! Some of the pieces had been purchased in Clerys in the 1950s and still looked perfect, given the care each piece had been given. The winners on the day were Star (who had reconstructed her 1940s velvet dress that morning!) looked very bit the Dita Von Teese (but better) and May who had her dusky pink wool coat for over 30 years!
Vintage is alive and well!
